Do you want to know when is the best time to publish a blog post so that you can get more traffic, more comments, more backlinks, and more social shares on every blog post you publish?
Well, you’ve come to the right place.
Though publishing blog posts at the best time alone won’t get you the results you want, but they will most certainly give a boost that you need.
And if you want to know the best time to publish a blog post, then the first thing you need to do is figure out…
Short answer: mornings.
And I’m not making this up. Dozens of studies have already been conducted to find out when do most people read blogs to ultimately discover the best time to publish a blog post.
However, the only problem is, each of these studies were conducted to identify specific slants.
For instance, some studies were conducted to know when is the best time to publish a blog post to get maximum traffic, while other studies were conducted to find out when is the best time for most social shares, comments, and so on.
And in this post, I’m going to reveal the best time to publish a blog post for more traffic, comments, backlinks, and social shares separately.
If you just want to know the best time to publish a blog post to get more traffic, then like I said, all you need to do is figure out when do most people read blogs on the Internet.
And the good news is, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel because Kissmetrics already did it for all of us.
According to the Science of Social Timing Study by Kissmetrics, the best time to publish a blog post for gaining maximum traffic is on Monday around 11 AM EST.
Now, if you think about it, Monday morning 11 AM kind of makes sense too.
You see, most people spend their Monday mornings planning their week by going through emails while taking quick peep to check their social media and read their favorite blogs.
Plus, another study conducted by Shareaholic in 2011 also discovered Monday as the best day of the week to publish a blog post to get more traffic.
In fact, they also discovered that blog posts get most views on weekdays between 7 AM to 1 PM EST while the peak time was between 9 AM and 10 AM EST.
The bottom line is, if you want to get maximum traffic on your blog posts, multiple studies have proven that you should publish your blog posts on Monday morning between 9 to 11 AM EST.
If you’re rather interested in knowing your readers’ opinion on any matter through blog comments, then according to the same Kissmetrics study, the best time to publish a blog post would be Saturday mornings around 9 AM EST.
This is exactly when regular blog readers usually have time to read posts word-to-word and take some time to leave thoughtful comments.
In simple words, around 9 AM on Saturdays is when most blogs receive most blog comments from their regular readers.
If you simply want to earn as many backlinks as possible for every blog post you publish, then according to Kissmetrics, the best time to publish a blog post for more backlinks is Monday and Thursday around 7 AM EST.
Recently, Brian Dean of Backlinko and Buzzsumo partnered up and analyzed around 912 million blog posts to discover the best day to publish a blog post for more social shares.
However, their study found very little difference between all days of the week as shown below:
So, does this mean you can get almost the same number of social shares on your blog posts irrespective of the day of the week you publish?
Well, another study conducted by Buzzsumo in partnership with Noah Kagan says otherwise.
In their study, they found that the best day to publish a blog post for more social shares is Tuesday.
They basically analyzed social shares of 100+ million blog posts to identify how blog posts published on each day performed in terms of social shares.
And, here are the results!
Apart from this study, TrackMaven also conducted a similar study in 2017 to basically figure out the best day of the week to publish blog posts for maximum social shares.
TrackMaven’s study discovered that Sundays have the maximum average number of social shares per blog posts.
This is mainly because fewer blog posts were published Sundays, which resulted into more social shares.
In other words, if you want to get maximum social shares, publish your blog posts on quiet days such as Sundays.
But what time on Sundays?
Well, the same TrackMaven study also discovered that blog posts published around 3 PM EST have received most social shares on average.
So, the answer to your question “when is the best time to publish a blog post for more social shares”, would be Sundays around 3 PM EST.
Unfortunately, there is no single best time to publish blog posts.
The best time varies depending on your specific goals i.e. more traffic, backlinks, comments, etc.
So, how can you identify the best time to publish a blog post to maximize everything at once – traffic, comments, backlinks, and social shares?
Short answer – Do you own testing!
What I mean by that is you should figure out the best time to publish blog posts on your blog.
Here are a couple of simple tricks that could help you with that.
The best way to identify the right time to publish a blog post on your blog is to track your own data in Google Analytics.
For instance, if the majority of your readers are from Europe, then you’ll have to publish posts quite differently than if they’re from Australia.
So, for this you need to dive into your Google Analytics insights to discover when most of your readers are online.
At Screwed Up Engineer, I typically publish highly-educational, informative, and long-form blog posts early in the week. On weekends, on the other hand, I prefer publishing short, light-reading posts as during weekends people tend to be looking for some relief.
However, I do sometimes like to mix and match and also publish short blog posts (like this one) early in the week. I do this only when I think the post, even being a short one, is highly valuable and helpful for my readers.
I know that you can’t always be consistent with your blog, especially when you’re doing it just part-time.
And the fact is, even I also can’t maintain consistency all the time on my blog. However, I still do believe that being consistent as much as possible with your blog posts can contribute a lot in helping you grow your readership.
This is because when you publish blog posts on a consistent basis, your readers will soon start to take notice even if you don’t explicitly tell them when you’ll be publishing your next post.
So, when do you publish blog posts on your blog?
Do you just hit “Publish” whenever a piece is ready or you’ve fixed certain days and time?
Are you going to change your publish day and time based on these studies?
Before you do, remember that publishing time is only one factor when it comes to growing your blog.
And if you have already been publishing your blog posts at specific days and time, I rather recommend not changing it just for the sake of these studies.
The #1 reason is that your readers might have already become accumulated to your publishing schedule. And making changes in that just to experiment may put off your readers.
On the other hand, if you’ve been publishing posts whenever they’re ready, then I definitely suggest you to do your own testing and experiment with different days and time based on your Google Analytics insights.
This method will help you identify a better schedule for publishing your blog posts and grow your blog.
