Grammarly Free Features
If you’re someone who is wondering what makes Grammarly so incredible, here are the features of its free version that helps to improve your writing skills.
1 – Spelling Checker
Everyone makes spelling mistakes, more often than they’d like to admit.
I know I do. I make spelling mistakes quite often when writing these blog posts.
But thanks to Grammarly, I no longer have to worry about those mistakes as Grammarly instantly spots my spelling mistakes and suggests the right spelling.
In addition to spotting the spelling mistakes, Grammarly also judges the context of the sentences and accordingly, it suggests the right words that you actually meant to write.
Here’s an example:
As you can see in the image above, Grammarly red-lines all spelling as well as grammatical mistakes in the editor and lists them all at the right-side as you write your content.
This feature makes the editing and proofreading process a lot simpler and easier.
And compared with other grammar checking tools, Grammarly is the most accurate when it comes to detecting spelling mistakes and offering accurate suggestions.
2 – Grammar Checker
Grammarly has created its own intelligent algorithm to detect all grammar mistakes.
And as per my experience, it does a great job when it comes to spotting all grammatical mistakes in your content.
Here’s an example:
The above image shows how easily Grammarly has spotted all my grammar mistakes accurately.
Although, sometimes it does provide some wrong suggestions, but it is certainly not a deal-breaker.
3 – Punctuation Checker
When I first started my career as a writer, I used to skip a lot of commas at important places, which was really annoying.
But ever since I started using Grammarly, I did improve a lot.
Though I still miss a couple of commas once in a while, but I no longer have to worry about it since Grammarly helps me easily spot my comma mistakes and correct the errors.
In the image above, you can see how it detected all comma as well as the serial comma mistakes accurately.
This proves that Grammarly can indeed help anyone improve their writing skills, even if the person has recently started learning the English language.
Grammarly Premium Features
The Grammarly Premium comes with a couple of advanced features, in addition to all the features of the free version.
These features are essential for anyone who writes almost every day.
1 – Plagiarism Checker
If you’re a blogger or work in the digital marketing industry, then you obviously need to make sure that your content does not match other people’s content and is not copied from anywhere.
And while there are plenty of free plagiarism checker tools out there, but I’ve personally experienced that none of these free tools match the accuracy of Grammarly premium.
Earlier, like many of you, I used to check my content for plagiarism using the SmallSEOTools Plagiarism Checker.
But after comparing the accuracy of both the tools, Grammarly has now become my go-to-tool for checking plagiarism.
The plagiarism checker of Grammarly easily spots the copied content and also provides the link to the original source.
So, in addition to checking grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes, Grammarly premium also helps you to instantly spot plagiarized content at one place.
2 – Genre Specific Writing Style Checker
People write for different purposes.
Some write dozens of work emails throughout the day, while others’ job involves writing medical reports, blog posts, fiction stories, etc.
And the good thing about Grammarly is that it comes with 30+ different templates for these different genres.
These templates help to align your writing for any given Genre and fine-tune your content to make sure it matches your actual purpose.
3 – Sentence Structure
Being a non-native English speaker, many times I face the trouble of framing a sentence in the correct way.
But since I use Grammarly premium, it helps me instantly spot my sentence structure errors and suggests the right way to frame my sentences.
4 – Vocabulary Enhancement
Vocabulary enhancement is another useful feature that you get with the Grammarly premium version.
This feature basically suggests you better synonyms for existing words in your content, especially when you’ve either used a word repetitively or the words aren’t as powerful as they should be.
If you’re a student, blogger, or writer, you may find this feature extremely useful.
5 – Advanced Grammar Checker
The premium version of Grammarly comes with an advanced grammar checker feature.
This feature basically warns you about advanced grammar mistakes such as spotting a preposition at the end of a sentence, unclear antecedent, use of passive voice, repetitive use of the same words, and several other advanced grammar mistakes.
This feature is especially useful for bloggers and students who regularly write important documents such as blog posts or assignments.
How to Use Grammarly? – 5 Different Ways

3 – Grammarly Desktop Application
If you’re not an excessive internet user but still want to use Grammarly, you can install Grammarly’s standalone application available for both macOS and Windows.
Compared to the web app and browser extension, the Grammarly standalone application is a bit more efficient and convenient.
But other than that, there is nothing new and you’ll have the same dashboard and features that you get in its web application.
4 – Microsoft Office Add-In
If you’re a corporate professional who uses Microsoft Word for creating reports, and send business emails using Microsoft Outlook, then you should absolutely get the Grammarly’s Microsoft Office Add-In.

Click on ‘Open Grammarly’ and it will open a small sign-in window.
Login using your credentials or Register a free Grammarly account if you haven’t to start using it in your Microsoft Office.
Once you’ve created your free Grammarly account and signed in, a new Grammarly tab will open on the right-side of your Microsoft Word screen.
Now, as you write your content in the Word document, all your Grammar-related mistakes will be displayed on the right-side tab as shown in the below screenshot.
Unfortunately, the Grammarly Microsoft Add-In is only available for Windows users.
If you’re a Mac user, you can use Grammarly either using its online app, download the standalone application, or by installing its browser extension as explained before.
5 – Grammarly Keyboard (Android & iOS)
In addition to all these different ways to use Grammarly, you can also install Grammarly on your smartphone.

This new Grammarly Keyboard app is useful for anyone who wants to have the proofreading functionality right in their pockets.

If you’ve liked this blog post so far, make sure to share your favorite way to use Grammarly with me in the comment section. 🙂
I personally prefer using the browser extension on Google Chrome.
As I mentioned earlier, the free version of Grammarly is free for life, and you can get it by simply registering a free account.
On the other hand, if you’re someone who, in some way, writes for a living and is convinced to get the premium version of Grammarly, then I have good news for you.
For readers of this blog, Grammarly is offering a special 25% discount on its annual subscription plan.
Just click on the below image to claim your discount!
In fact, if you purchase the premium version and not satisfied, Grammarly is also offering a 10-days Money Back Guarantee.
To claim your refund, all you have to do is go to your Account tab, select Subscription, and click on the ‘Cancel Subscription’ button as shown in the image below.
Here’s my final recommendation:
If you write for a living, directly or indirectly, and have the budget, you should definitely get the Grammarly premium. – It’s worth every penny.
On the other hand, if you’re still unsure, you should still get the free version anyway.
So, do yourself a favor right now and Register your free account and use it for at least one week before making any decision.
